Technology Integration: Defined
Technology integration involves educators learning about and implementing new technologies into their classrooms, furthering preparing their students for the world outside of school. The new technologies engage students and promote higher-level, intricate thinking on the part of the students. In addition, technology integration involves teachers being smart about the technologies they choose to use. Teachers realize that they cannot/should not use all the technology available to them, but they do choose the two or three things that they can use and use well so that their students truly master what is being placed in front of them.
Outside of the classroom, technology integration means that administrators realize that teachers need extensive and adequate training and time in which to implement new technologies. They realize that one training session is most likely not enough for teachers to feel truly comfortable with the new learning. It is understood that, just like the students we teach, teachers need repetition and practice before becoming comfortable with new innovations. In addition, it is understood that teachers need ample resources at their disposal so that the implementation of the technology is not stifled.
